Privacy Policy
The short version
- We don't run a server for Damascus Fit, and the app doesn't send your data to us.
- What Damascus Fit reads from Apple Health stays on your devices, except that your training plan keeps a short record of each workout that reaches the app, whether from Apple Health, your Apple Watch or your own log. That record holds the workout's type, date, duration and distance. If you use iCloud, the plan syncs between your devices through your own private iCloud database.
- Workouts you log in the iPhone app sync the same way. That includes workouts you train with Apple Watch while the iPhone app has them open, and your Intake session wherever you record it, along with any energy and distance your Apple Watch measured for them. We can't read this database.
- If you back up your iPhone, the backup includes what Damascus Fit keeps on it.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and we don't sell or share your data.
Who we are
Damascus Fit is made by Avesta Forge LLC, a software company in Texas, United States ("we", "us"). For anything about this policy, email support@damascusfit.app.
What Damascus Fit uses, and why
Apple Health, only with your permission
On iPhone, Damascus Fit reads your workouts, sleep, weight, height, body fat percentage, lean body mass, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, active energy, cardio fitness, date of birth and biological sex. It uses them to show your training and body data in one place and to pick the right body map. It also uses the workouts it reads to keep your training plan up to date.
On Apple Watch, during a workout, it reads your heart rate, active and resting energy, and distance to show live figures on your wrist and to complete the workout it saves.
Damascus Fit saves the workouts you log or record to Apple Health. If you edit a workout you logged on iPhone, it replaces its own copy there. It never edits or deletes anything else there, and it doesn't access clinical health records. We never use Apple Health data for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone.
Location, on Apple Watch only
With your permission, outdoor runs and rides record a route so that the workout saved to Apple Health is accurate. The route is saved with that workout in Apple Health.
Sign in with Apple, optional
You can use Damascus Fit without an account. If you sign in with Apple, the app keeps the identifier Apple gives it and, if you choose to share it, your name, on your iPhone. It doesn't ask for your email address, and neither is sent to us. Signing in doesn't change what syncs.
Files you choose
When you import a Fitbod export, you pick the file and it's read on your iPhone. The workouts it adds stay on that iPhone and aren't synced to your other devices. A recent imported set can update the estimated max of a lift your plan uses. The imported sets stay on your iPhone, but that estimate becomes part of your plan, which syncs.
Notifications
Session reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. We don't send push messages. iCloud may use Apple's silent notifications to keep your devices in sync.
Where your data lives
On your iPhone
- What Damascus Fit reads from Apple Health, except the workout record kept in your training plan (see below).
- Your profile: the name you enter, and your weekly availability and sports as you entered them.
- Your training context, saved sessions, exercise notes, exercise preferences such as Not for me, muscle targets, field-test entries, and Fitbod imports.
- Other workouts you record on Apple Watch alone.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes this data.
In your private iCloud database, if you use iCloud
- Workouts you log in the iPhone app, including ones you train with Apple Watch while the iPhone app has them open, and your Intake session wherever you record it: exercises, sets, weights, reps, effort ratings, duration, distance, notes and how the session went. This includes the energy and distance your Apple Watch measured, or that you entered.
- Your training plan, planned sessions and plan changes. The plan includes the setup it was built from (your lifts and goals, your endurance sessions, preferred training times, any event date, and any time away from training), the field-test results and estimated maxes it plans from, and a record of each workout that reached the app, including workouts read from Apple Health or recorded on Apple Watch: type, date, duration, distance, and any sets and effort you logged.
- Estimated maxes worked out from sets you logged on iPhone or Apple Watch.
- Your answer to the app's "cleared to train" confirmation.
This database is part of your iCloud account and is stored by Apple. We can't access it, and it counts toward your iCloud storage. Your plan, with its record of past workouts, stays there until you delete Damascus Fit's iCloud data. If iCloud is off or unavailable, your plan stays on your device.
Between your iPhone and Apple Watch
When you train with Apple Watch, the running workout, your edits and your live heart rate pass between your paired iPhone and watch. Damascus Fit shows your heart rate and doesn't keep it. Your watch keeps the current plan and the workouts it recorded until they reach your iPhone.
On your Lock Screen, Home Screen and Apple Watch
The Today and Week widgets show session names, the kind of day, sets and reps, planned minutes, and whether you logged something. They never show a health value.
During a workout, the Live Activity on your Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and in your Apple Watch Smart Stack shows the workout, your current exercise, your sets, weights and reps, and your rest. It can also show your heart rate from Apple Watch, which anyone who can see your Lock Screen could read. That is on by default, and you can turn it off in Damascus Fit's Settings. The Live Activity is updated by the app on your iPhone, not by a server.
What reaches us
- From the app: nothing, unless you choose to send us a diagnostics file from a test build (below).
- If you test a beta through TestFlight: Apple's TestFlight shows us your device model, OS version, how often you used the beta and crash reports, plus any feedback and screenshots you choose to send. If we invited you by email, we see your name and email address; if you joined through a public link, we don't. Test builds also have a Harness screen in Settings that can export a small file about how the app is running: device type, iOS and app version, approximate processor and memory size, device temperature state, and codes for what the app did, with rough timings. It contains no health values, names or notes, and it leaves your device only if you choose to share it.
- From the App Store, once Damascus Fit is there: if you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may share crash reports and aggregated usage figures with us.
- If you email us: we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use it only to answer you. Our email is hosted by Google Workspace. We keep messages only as long as we need them to help you.
- This website: it's a set of static pages hosted by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or scripts. Cloudflare processes the technical data needed to deliver pages, such as your IP address, under its own privacy policy.
Links in the app, such as article sources and licenses, open in your browser. Those sites have their own policies.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your data.
- We don't use your data for advertising or tracking.
- We don't build a profile of you.
- The app gives your data to no third party. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy first, and any such party will have to protect your data at least as well as this policy does.
Your choices, and deleting your data
- You can change or remove Damascus Fit's access to Apple Health at any time in the Health app or in iOS Settings.
- You can turn off location for Damascus Fit in your device's Location Services settings.
- You can turn off heart rate on the Lock Screen in Damascus Fit's Settings, and notifications in iOS Settings.
- To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for Damascus Fit in your iCloud settings. This stops future syncing; it doesn't delete what's already in iCloud (see below).
- Signing out removes your Apple sign-in from the app. It doesn't delete the training data on your device. To stop Damascus Fit using your Apple Account entirely, remove it under Sign in with Apple in your Apple Account settings.
- Deleting Damascus Fit from a device removes the data it keeps only on that device. Backups of your iPhone keep their copy until you delete those backups.
- Data in your private iCloud database stays in your iCloud account until you delete it, which you can do from your iCloud storage settings. Workouts saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
- There isn't yet a single control in the app that erases everything. Because we can't access your iCloud or Apple Health data, we can't delete it for you, but if you email support@damascusfit.app we'll walk you through it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including California, the European Union and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to know what personal data a company holds about you, and to access, correct, delete or move it, or to object to how it's used. Because the app doesn't send your data to us, we usually hold nothing about you beyond any emails you've sent. To make a request, email support@damascusfit.app. We won't treat you differently for asking. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also contact your local data protection authority.
Children
Damascus Fit is for adults. It isn't directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
Not medical advice
Damascus Fit is a training-planning app. It isn't a medical device and doesn't provide medical advice. If you're returning from surgery, illness or injury, your clinician decides when you're cleared to train. The app never does.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. Earlier versions are available on request.
